Tenacious Tuesday with Tara Faquir

Your Skills Are Transferable:

There is a common trend in some incredible successful women these days, they tend to start in one industry – build some serious life skills & then are able to pivot into a totally different unrelated field that they never thought they’d end up in.

Today’s guest Tara Faquir Co-Founder of Trustate sits down with us to tell us all about her journey from her widely successful, exciting retail life at Nordstrom & Rent The Runway which led to a huge pivot into a little non-profit called Girl Scouts & landed her right to where she is at today – running a remarkably untouched industry with her best friend whom she met during a college transition.

Tara, like all of our guests defines unstoppable. She knows her strength & more importantly when it’s time to pivot to her next challenge. Listen along as she shares her journey & teaches us how although we may not see it now but our skills are incredibly transferrable if we just took some time to look harder into our day to days.

What’s the good news, ladies? April edition

GoodNewsApril17

Who’s ready to write out tax checks? Can you believe we are already through the first quarter of 2017? There’s a couple items of business I want to hit on this month. Since you know this is all about recognizing women in our industry, I thought I’d give you a few ideas. WIFS and NAHU have great awards programs for their members to help get you recognized for the hard work you did last year. WIFS’s program is called Circle of Excellence and NAHU’s program is called LPRT. Check them out and start collecting some well-deserved bling!

This month, I’m going to introduce you to Heidi, Kristen and Kim. I have known Heidi for 10+ years, and she is the reason I became a part of WIFS, which parlayed me into being their National President a couple years ago! Miss Kristen will be speaking on the What’s the Good News, Ladies panel at the BenefitsPRO BrokerExpo conference in Indianapolis this month! And finally, Kim and I connected when she recognized one of the women featured in this series! Click here to read more and be inspired!

What’s the good news, ladies? What we’re thankful for.

november

I know many of us are working hard to close out the year with a bang!  I continue to get some amazing emails from women who are sharing their good news with me; you are all truly inspiring to me!

So let’s get to it, shall we?  This month, you’re going to hear about a couple of colleagues I have known for a number of years and a couple of ladies who were recommended to me after their friends read about other women in this series and wanted to help them toot their own horns!

What’s the good news, ladies? Even more women changing the industry.

3rd-installment

For our third installment highlighting women who are changing our industry, I’m going to introduce three more  three amazing ladies.  These three are rock star recruiters from Guardian, MassMutual and Penn Mutual.

(Be sure to read our first and second installment of the series.)

I met each of these women by being part of organizations like WIFS, NAIFA and GAMA.  I’ve found that when you connect with women who are involved with industry organizations, they mean business and are always looking to develop themselves and the people around them.

What’s the good news, ladies? Women who are changing the industry.

Series1-WTGNLWith so much negativity in the world these days, I often find myself actively searching for the “good stuff” and celebrating those who share this information with me.  I recently caught up with my friend and colleague, Emily Viner, VP of Agency Growth & Development for Guardian, and we were discussing Guardian’s study on closing the gender gap in sales and how they are working hard to change the landscape for women in the industry.

According to Viner, “Our industry struggles to recruit women into sales roles, but the issue is much broader than us. The study provides a clearer picture of how to position a career in sales as a satisfying and successful venture for those who are interested in a new opportunity. We now have a roadmap showing how to best highlight career benefits to women and address concerns they may have. We need to start sharing that message with young women and girls as well as experienced women looking for their next career move.”

I get excited any time I hear of a company working on a new strategy to get more women into the industry.  I often hear that women in our industry account for about 14 percent of the production positions, and the percentage is even smaller in management roles. But I feel like we’re on the brink of something big here. Over the next several months, you are going to be wowed over and over again with a new series called “What’s the good news, ladies?”  I know I have some amazing rock star women in my life who are getting it done, so I reached out to some of them to share with you some of their high points from this year.  Buckle up and Click Here to read all about them!
