What’s the good news, Ladies? August Edition

August BlogI can’t believe that the summer is coming to a close! So true what they say: The older you get, the quicker it goes! I know our industry has seemed like a tennis match this summer with the various proposals on health care, so I’m sure you all need a break if you haven’t had one already. I’ve never watched so much C-Span in my life.

Since open enrollment will soon be upon us again, I hope you have all had some R&R time to unplug yourselves and your business. I find it is so important to recharge and come back to work with a fresh mindset! This month, I’m excited to introduce you to three women I admire and have had the pleasure of working with either through associations or my practice. Click here to feel inspired as you meet Brittany, Denise and Susan!

Feature Friday: What’s the good news, ladies? May Edition!

So, first things first …I won! I’m still in shock over winning the BenefitsPRO Broker of the Year Award!  This was the award that I told you about last month. Internally, they call it the BOY Award, so it was extra gratifying for this GIRL to take the crown!  The BenefitsPRO BrokerExpo conference in Indianapolis was incredible, and I was honored to be recognized by my peers in the industry — truly a highlight in my career thus far.

This month, I’m excited to introduce you to Cornelia, Joan and ShirleyAnn.  Cornelia has been a longtime advocate for our industry and for women as well, and I feel very fortunate that I met her through her national involvement in WIFS.  Joan has made a huge impact on my career by showing me the value of education and how crucial is is in our industry. She is my go-to resource for anything concerning our industry’s legislative landscape. And finally, ShirleyAnn. I don’t even know where to begin — to know ShirleyAnn is to experience her. She has an exuberance that just makes you want to strive for greatness in our industry.  I am honored to introduce you to these incredible women, and I know you’ll enjoy getting to know them a little better and hearing about the great things they are doing in our industry!

Thank You…

What a whirlwind the past few days have been!  I traveled to Indianapolis to attend the BrokerExpo put on by BenefitsPro Magazine.  In true traveling fashion, I hit a Diner’s Drive-Ins & Dives place for dinner called Tamale Place that was awesome!  The next morning I hit Orangetheory with my good friend David Contorno and then headed to the session where I was a part of the panel of the 5 finalist for the Broker of the Year!  At the end of the session they announced the winner and I was excited, shocked, humbled and in awe that I was selected as the 2017 Broker of the Year.

The outpouring of love I’ve received has been overwhelming, to say the least, I truly appreciate all that have reached out.  There is no possible way for me to thank everyone personally for the texts, calls, emails, comments on social media, re-posts, shout outs and shares that have been given on my behalf but I will always be eternally grateful.  To my family, my friends, my work family (Combs & Co, Capacity / EPIC and Savoy), my association family (WIFS, NAHU, NAIFA and Mizzou), my clients, my mentees, my mentors, my King City Crew, my industry peers and most of all my incredible husband – you have helped me to become the person I am today, thank you for believing in me more than I believe in myself sometimes.

Over the past couple of days, a JFK quote kept popping into my head, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”  I hope I continue to live my life so that you all know how truly grateful I am for the love and support that you all have shown me and continue to pay it forward for others.

What’s the good news, ladies? April edition

GoodNewsApril17

Who’s ready to write out tax checks? Can you believe we are already through the first quarter of 2017? There’s a couple items of business I want to hit on this month. Since you know this is all about recognizing women in our industry, I thought I’d give you a few ideas. WIFS and NAHU have great awards programs for their members to help get you recognized for the hard work you did last year. WIFS’s program is called Circle of Excellence and NAHU’s program is called LPRT. Check them out and start collecting some well-deserved bling!

This month, I’m going to introduce you to Heidi, Kristen and Kim. I have known Heidi for 10+ years, and she is the reason I became a part of WIFS, which parlayed me into being their National President a couple years ago! Miss Kristen will be speaking on the What’s the Good News, Ladies panel at the BenefitsPRO BrokerExpo conference in Indianapolis this month! And finally, Kim and I connected when she recognized one of the women featured in this series! Click here to read more and be inspired!

NAHUThis morning, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) made an announcement that may affect your clients regarding compliance to new Affordable Care Act (ACA) mandated coverage reports (6055 and 6056) for 2015. The IRS announced that it is giving employers additional time to file certain reports. In Notice 2016-4, the IRS stated that it is delaying filing deadlines after determining that “additional time to adapt and implement systems to gather, analyze, and report this information” was needed by employers, insurers, and other providers.

The deadline for employers to electronically file 1094 forms for 2015 was extended by three months from March 31, 2016, to June 30, 2016. The deadline for filing by paper was also extended by three months from February 29, 2016, to May 31, 2016. Additionally, the deadline for providing employees with 1095 forms for 2015 was extended from February 1, 2016, to March 31, 2016.
